John Larsen Memorial Scholarship

To honor the memory of his friend, to recognize the legacy of success of the South Plains College track programs, and to provide support to student athletes, Fred Krebs established a scholarship endowment in 2021. John Larson and his wife Eileen met Mr. Krebs walking the beach in Rockport, Texas. A chance encounter led to a relationship that provided support as Mr. Larson battled illness. Beach conversations revealed the affinity the Larsons had for collegiate track and especially for community college programs. After Mr. Larson’s passing, Mr. Krebs made it his mission to find the best of the best in National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) track programs and his research led him to South Plains College. This scholarship supports a member of the men’s or women’s track team.
