Spencer and Irene Ellis Memorial Scholarship

The Spencer and Irene Ellis Memorial Scholarship is awarded to an outstanding freshman or sophomore student who is majoring in business administration. Minimum qualifications include: 2.50 grade point average; full-time enrollment (12 semester hours or more); and U.S. citizen or permanent resident. This scholarship honors the memory of Spencer and Irene Ellis, early Levelland settlers who owned and operated Ellis Pharmacy from 1926 until their retirement in the 1970s. Mrs. Ellis worked as a loan officer with First National Bank in Levelland and later she helped manage the pharmacy. Mr. Ellis served as Mayor of Levelland when South Plains College was founded in 1957. The scholarship was established by Ellis’ grandson Richard and his wife Carrie of Levelland.
