Ray and Donna West Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Scholarship

The Ray and Donna West Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Scholarship is awarded to students who enroll in selected STEM programs offered by South Plains College. Minimum qualifications include: 2.50 cumulative grade point average; full-time enrollment (12 semester hours or more); and U.S. citizen or permanent resident. This scholarship program was established by Ray and Donna West of Midland to assist students who enroll in one of the following programs: Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Design Communication, Pre-Engineering, Biology, Wildlife Management, Chemistry, Geology, Physics, Agriculture/Animal Science, Human Science, Mathematics, Industrial Manufacturing/Emerging Technologies, Electrical and Power Transmission Technology, Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology, Welding Technology, Automotive Technology, Diesel Service Technology, Technical Graphics and Design, Physical Therapist Assistant, Emergency Medical Services, Radiologic Technology, Surgical Technology, and Respiratory Care. Mr. West grew up in Muleshoe, Texas, and graduated from Muleshoe High School. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Oklahoma and worked as an engineer and consultant in the energy industry until his retirement. The Wests established the scholarship program in order to provide students with the opportunity to prepare for gainful employment in good-paying jobs.
