Raymond "Duke" and Audie Sonnenburg Scholarship

Established by Mrs. Audie Sonnenburg of Lubbock, Texas and her son Guy Thomas of Nacogdoches, Texas, this scholarship assists students who major in one of the following fields of study: business administration, computer information systems or industrial technology programs. First consideration is given to female applicants in honor of her daughter Teresa Thomas Etchison who died in 2012. In order to qualify, applicants must have and maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average and enroll full-time (minimum 12 semester hours) in one of the approved programs. Academic performance is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship. Consideration is also given to students who are from Olton, Texas where Mrs. Sonnenburg grew up and raised a family with her first husband Jack Thomas, who died in a fatal fire. The Sonnenburg family moved to Levelland in 1980 where Mr. Sonnenburg taught distributive education and trades at Levelland High School and helped establish the Hockley County School Employees Credit Union. Mr. Sonnenburg died in 2010.
