R.L. and Louise Heard Memorial Scholarship
The R.L. and Louise Heard Memorial Scholarship was established by Mrs. Heard just prior to her death. The Heards were strong supporters of South Plains College from its early years. Mr. Heard, who farmed in the Whitharral area, was an election judge for the college for many years and also served on the Whitharral School Board. Mrs. Heard was a teacher for many years with Whitharral schools. She was among the first evening college students to enroll at SPC when it opened in 1958. Minimum qualifications include: 2.50 grade point average; full-time enrollment (12 semester hours or more); and U.S. citizen or permanent resident. First consideration is given to incoming freshmen students who are graduates of Levelland High School.
