Virginia Nelson Memorial Scholarship In Teacher Education
The Virginia Nelson Memorial scholarship is awarded to freshmen or sophomore students majoring in teacher education. Minimum qualifications include: 2.50 grade point average; full-time enrollment (12 semester hours or more); and U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Students are selected for the award by the Associate of Arts in Teaching program faculty. The South Plains College Foundation is a beneficiary of the Frederick D. and Virginia Nelson Trust, which provides scholarship funds for students majoring in pre-engineering and education. Mrs. Nelson taught many years in the public schools and Mr. Nelson worked as an engineer for Amoco.
