J.T. and Margaret Talkington Scholarship Endowment

The J.T. and Margaret Talkington Scholars program provides scholarship assistance for freshmen and sophomore students who are residents of Hockley County and Lubbock County, Texas. Minimum qualifications include: 2.50 grade point average; graduate from an accredited high school in Lubbock or Hockley County; full-time enrollment (12 semester hours or more) in an associate degree program; and U.S. citizen or permanent resident. The scholarship endowment was established by a generous grant from the J.T. and Margaret Talkington Charitable Foundation. The Talkington’s were long-time business and banking leaders in the Lubbock community known for their generosity and philanthropy. They owned and operated several high-end men’s and women’s clothing stores, bringing the latest clothing fashions from international markets to the Lubbock area. This scholarship program perpetuates the Talkington’s belief that higher education should be available to all who would benefit from it.
