J.B. Balch Memorial Scholarship

The J.B. Balch Memorial Scholarship is awarded to an outstanding freshman or sophomore student who majors in a science discipline. Minimum qualifications include: 3.00 grade point average; full-time enrollment (12 semester hours or more); and U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Students are selected for the award by the Science Department Faculty. This scholarship program was established by the widow, children and family of J.B. Balch who taught geology in the Science Department at SPC from 1966-1982, capping a 35-year teaching career. While at SPC, he was selected by his peers to receive the Excellence in Teaching Award. Professor Balch died in 2003.
