Johnny and Darlene Vest Memorial Scholarship

The family and friends of Johnny and Darlene Vest of Levelland have established an endowed scholarship program that assists students pursuing a career in culinary arts (first preference) or in public school teaching (second preference). Mr. Vest owned and operated JIV Service which serviced hydraulic pumps for a number of years in Levelland and later worked in the transportation department for the Levelland school district. Mrs. Vest worked 37 years in the school district’s food service. The Vests were strong supporters of public education and South Plains College. All three of their children graduated from SPC. In order to be eligible, applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, enroll in a minimum of 12 semester credit hours in the culinary arts or teacher education programs and maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average. First preference is given to a graduate of Levelland High school, followed by a graduate of any high school in Hockley County and then Lubbock County.
