Johnnie and Avis Keen Memorial Scholarship

The Johnnie Keen Memorial Scholarship was chartered in 2000 for the benefit of any student attending South Plains College. Minimum qualifications include: 2.50 grade point average; full-time enrollment (12 semester hours or more); and U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Preference is given to students who graduate from public schools in Hockley County or Whiteface CISD. Mr. Keen served on the SPC Board of Regents for 24 years during which he served as secretary of the board for a number of years before being elected chairman in 1987. He retired from the Board in May, 1994 but remained active in the community until his death in 2000. Mrs. Keen was a homemaker and she died in 2011. The scholarship was established through the donations of many family members and friends.
