George and Carole Lawless Honorary Scholarship

The children of George and Carole Lawless have established an endowed scholarship in honor of their parents who were associated with South Plains College for 24 years. Mr. Lawless joined the SPC faculty in 1973 as an instructor in law enforcement technology. He was named program coordinator in 1975 and held that position until his retirement in 1999. During that time he and other faculty grew the law enforcement program from 25 students to more than 350 majors. He received the Excellence in Teaching Award in 1986, and also served as chairperson of the Professional Services and Energy Department. Mrs. Lawless served as director of nursing at Cook Memorial Hospital in Levelland and later operated a home health business and assisted living senior management service. The scholarship program recognizes outstanding students who are majoring in law enforcement technology or an allied health program. To be eligible, applicants must be a returning sophomore student in law enforcement or a health science program, enroll as a full-time student and have a minimum grade point average of 2.5. The Lawless family includes sons George “Rocky” Lawless, Jr., Richard “Ricky” Lawless, and daughter Julie Lawless Mosely, all of Levelland.
