Gage Thompson Memorial Scholarship

Established by Connie and Jim Belcher of Lubbock, this scholarship honors Mrs. Belcher’s parents. Elmer Lee Roy Thompson and Gloria Jeanne Gage were married 64 years before her death in 2009. To honor her father’s unique abilities and work ethic, the focus of the scholarship is on SPC programs which require “hands-on” work. Students who enroll in one of the following technical programs are eligible for consideration: automotive collision repair technology, automotive technology, diesel service technology, electrical and power transmission technology, heating, air conditioning and refrigeration technology, industrial manufacturing/emerging technologies and welding technology. First preference is also given to students who enter SPC with a general education diploma (GED) and second preference is for a student who has served in any branch of the United States military. Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average and must enroll full-time in one of the qualified programs. Mrs. Belcher worked as a school teacher for many years and now does volunteer work with various community organizations. Mr. Belcher is the director of libraries at SPC.
