Barry and Rene Heard Scholarship

The Barry and Rene Heard Scholarship is a general college scholarship that is awarded to a freshman student who is a graduate of Whitharral High School. Minimum qualifications include: 2.50 grade point average; full-time enrollment (12 semester hours or more); and U.S. citizen or permanent resident. The Heards, who have a long-time association with South Plains College, have established an endowed scholarship program that assists an incoming student. Mr. Heard, who grew up in the Whitharral community, has farmed in Hockley County for many years. The Heards’ two children attended SPC, and Mrs. Heard retired from South Plains College with 21 years of service.
